Wednesday’s forecast: Changes for the Big Land, not so much on the Island

Good Wednesday evening from Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

The satellite picture shows some fair weather clouds around locally, but a wider view reveals a stationary boundary across northern Labrador. That boundary is producing showers to the north and some thundershowers to the south over the island. It will remain a key player in the weather over the next 24–48 hours.

This evening, it’s 8 °C in Nain and 21 °C in Goose Bay. Cooler air will slide south overnight. On the island, temperatures will hold in the teens and low 20s with some fog patches possible in the south. In Labrador, lows will range from 4 to 10 °C, much cooler than earlier today.

For Thursday:

  • Labrador – Cloud cover builds from Goose Bay northward with periods of rain, especially in Nain, easing off by afternoon. Highs 6–22 °C, warmest in western Labrador, cooler on the coast and in Goose Bay.

  • Newfoundland – A beautiful day with plenty of sunshine, highs in the upper teens to low 20s.

Friday looks very similar:

  • Labrador – Low 20s in Goose Bay, teens along the coast, more cloud cover than recent days.

  • Newfoundland – Another mostly sunny day with highs in the upper teens to low 20s.

For the weekend:

  • Newfoundland – Both Saturday and Sunday look pleasant with comfortable temperatures for the first full weekend of September.

  • Labrador – Highs in the teens and 20s, cooler in some areas by Sunday, but the coast warms up substantially into the weekend.

In the tropics, there’s still a 70% chance of a system developing over the next five days, far out in the Atlantic. Nothing immediate, but it’s worth monitoring.
