It’s been a damp day across central and eastern Newfoundland, and the timing couldn’t be better with wildfires still burning on the island

We are waking up to an area of low pressure driving areas of rain from the coast of Labrador to the Avalon Peninsula. The rain becomes more widespread over eastern and northeastern Newfoundland today.

I’ve never been more excited to forecast rain than I am today. As of late Monday afternoon (August 18, 2025), showers had already reached central Newfoundland

A cold front will bring much-needed rainfall to central and eastern Newfoundland later today through late Tuesday or Wednesday. This should be a huge help to fire suppression efforts!

A welcome change in the weather arrived this afternoon, with some rainfall moving across the Island through the day ahead of and along a cold front.

Today is going be another hot day across much of the region as our Heat Dome remains firmly in place.

I’m tracking multiple wildfires across the island today, with the Kingston fire remaining the most serious.

Late this evening, portions of both Paradise and CBS were placed on Evacuation Alert, meaning residents in the affected areas must be prepared to evacuate if the order is given.

Temperatures are warm, and the air is a bit more humid. The humidity is likely the biggest change in the weather you’ll notice today.
