Here are today’s highlights:

  • Another decent day is on tap for much of the NL with seasonable highs and a fair bit of sun.

  • Clouds increase this afternoon for many areas.

  • A sea breeze / back door cold front will sneak in from the north today, shifting winds over central and eastern Newfoundland toward onshore and dropping temperatures this afternoon.

  • There is a chance of isolated showers on the island, and there may be some thunderstorms over interior Labrador later today.

Newfoundland and Labrador is waking up to a relatively mild morning. Temperatures across the island are sitting between five and seven degrees as of half past five, with Badger the exception at just one degree. There was a frost advisory in effect overnight for central and northeastern areas, though that's now been lifted. Winds are light right now and should stay that way through much of the day.

Newfoundland Temperature Forecast

Across Labrador, coastal areas are hovering between three and five degrees in the west, with temperatures near ten degrees further east. Interior Labrador is a bit warmer.

Labrador Temperature Forecast

Today's Forecast

Expect fair bit of sunshine across Newfoundland this morning, with increasing cloud cover moving in this afternoon. A chance of isolated showers is possible over western and central areas later today, but nothing widespread.

High temperatures will reach the upper teens to low twenties for most of the island, though the Northern Peninsula, Green Bay, White Bay, Notre Dame, Bonavista Bay, and parts of the extreme northern Avalon will stay cooler — near ten degrees — thanks to a sea breeze effect.

That sea breeze will become more established later today as winds shift from westerly to northerly and eventually northeasterly, and it's going to pull temperatures down across central and northeastern Newfoundland this afternoon and evening, dropping back to near ten degrees or lower by eight or nine in the evening.

Labrador will see a general mix of sun and cloud today. Coastal areas may see some fog, with highs near five to eight degrees. Goose Bay will peak in the lower teens, while the west could see highs in the mid twenties. There's a chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms over interior Labrador, with showers possible around Goose Bay and Churchill Valley tonight.

A Quick Look Ahead

Tomorrow brings rain to the Northern Peninsula and the southeast corner of Labrador — possibly some snow at higher elevations. Showers will move across southern and eastern Newfoundland late in the day and into tomorrow night. Friday shapes up to be cooler across the board.

My next update will be posted later today!
