Wednesday Morning’s Weather Brief — October 15, 2025

Good Wednesday Morning

In non-weather-related news, the Progressive Conservatives will form a majority Government in Newfoundland and Labrador after yesterday’s election. The PC’s will hold 21 seats, the Liberal Party will hold 15 seats, the New Democrats will hold 2 seats there are 2 independent seats.

In weather-related news, much of central and eastern Newfoundland, along with the coastal parts of Labrador, are waking up to cloud cover and areas of fog and drizzle. Although, for the most part, the fog doesn’t seem to be overly thick at this point. This is due to a change in the weather pattern, which is bringing onshore flow to the aforementioned areas.

The pattern we are in now will bring an abundance of cloud cover, drizzle, areas of fog and generally cool temperatures for our Wednesday… and beyond… but lets just focus on today for now!

Temperatures today will struggle to get out of the upper single digits and lower teens for most areas. On top of that, it will be a little breezy with onshore winds of 15 to 25 km/h from the north, east or southeast depending on where one is located.

The weather pattern driving this change is here to stay for a while. You can tell this by the long-range temperature forecast. Notice there isn’t much variance for the St. John’s area through the weekend. That’s the tell-tale sign right there!

This is the first stint of rain, drizzle, and fog (RDF if you’re new to NL weather) in a very long time. Oftentimes, these patterns can bring significant rainfall, which we badly need. Initially, it seems we will get more drizzle and fog than rain, but there are some indicators that significant rain will fall over the weekend. I’ll have an update on that, and lots of other weather-related elements, for you this afternoon.

Have a great Wednesday!
