  • Today will be sunny across virtually the entire Province!

  • It’s a COLD start on the Island, in fact, it’s warmer in Labrador (for now) as of 5:20 AM ADT

  • Highs will range from the lower single digits to the mid-teens, depending upon your proximity to the ocean and wind direction.

  • Tomorrow looks very similar!

As we begin the day, temperatures are currently quite cold on the Island portion of the Province, with readings between -5ºC and -8ºC in many areas. That includes the Capital City. Meanwhile, readings in the Big Land are a tad warmer, with most locations reporting temperatures between 0 °C and -2 °C.

An area of high pressure built into the region yesterday and will be parked here for a while. This feature has helped to drop the wind speeds over much of the region. This high also brought the clearing skies last night and will keep skies sunny once more across virtually the entire Province today.

Monday brought the warmest readings of the season to Labrador West and the first teens being observed since October. Rodney Barney, a Meteorologist with Environment Canada’s weather office in Gander, posted this stat on X Monday afternoon:

Temperatures will be there again this afternoon, and some spots in Labrador will be even warmer. Happy Valley-Goose Bay, for instance, looks to reach the mid-teens! Below are the forecast highs for the Big Land today. Some spots will be much cooler, however, as onshore flow pushes the cold ocean air onto the land.

The Island will be similar today, with inland areas reaching the upper single digits to lower teens. However, those areas that are under the influence of onshore flow will have trouble getting above 4ºC or 5ºC, even under all the sunshine. The image below shows the expected highs across the Island today.
