Thursday Morning’s Weather Briefing — October 1, 2026
Good Thursday Morning! Here are today’s highlights
Today looks very nice across the Province, with only a few showers here and there in the Big Land.
Expect highs in the teens to near 20ºC, with the warmest temperatures being found in Labrador and central/northeast Newfoundland.
There is a higher chance of rain in southeast Labrador tonight as a cold front sinks south.
Rain chances increase on the Island late Friday as that same front moves in, and a low develops along it.
This morning’s update is sponsored by Roebothan, McKay, Marshall.

A low over northern Quebec is pushing a warm southwest flow right across the province, and that's the story for the next couple of days. Labrador is already mild this morning, with temperatures into the teens at this early hour; it’s also breezy, and some rain showers are near Lab West.
On the Island it's cooler and cloudier to start, with temperatures in the single digits to near 10ºC. We are seeing some pockets of fog this morning. Feel free to have a look at the road cams and live cams to see if you can spot any in your area. The view from The Post Taphouse webcam in Torbay certainly shows the fog.
For most of the Island today, it's a mostly dry, mild, breezy day. The fog lifts, Central and the West get some sun, and the wind picks up out of the southwest, gusting 40 in a lot of spots and up to 60 in the most exposed areas. Clouds thicken tonight with a chance of drizzle or showers on the West Coast and South Coast. Labrador gets showers and rain today, with steadier rain on Friday before a much cooler change.
Here's what to expect today:
Eastern Newfoundland / the Avalon: Cloudy with morning fog this morning, then clearing. Highs around 17, a bit cooler right on the water where the fog lingers. Winds from the southwest at 10 to 15 km/h, with higher gusts this afternoon.
Central: Best of the sun on the Island. Highs around 18 to 20. Windy, SW 15 to 30.
West Coast: Cloudy start, then clearing. Highs 15 to 17.
South Coast: Cloudy and becoming foggy, highs around 15.
Southwest Coast: Cloudy, highs around 15. Breezy, with a slight chance of a shower.
GNP and the Straits: Cloudy, then some sun late. Highs near 16, windy, Southwest winds 25 to 40 km/h.
Labrador: Mild with scattered showers under cloudy to mostly cloudy skies. Highs near 19 in Lab West and Happy Valley-Goose Bay, with a 50 to 80% chance of rain and/or showers. Nain is overcast and breezy, with a high near 18, but stays dry. The big change comes Friday: rain, then a cooler air mass with Lab. West dropping to highs near 10 and lows around 2.
Have a great day and follow along for updates! My detailed forecast will be posted this afternoon.
