Thursday Morning’s Weather Briefing - April 2, 2026

Good Thursday morning!

Here are today’s weather highlights:

  • It’s a bitterly cold start to the day for the time of year, with areas of interior and central Newfoundland and much of Labrador into the -20s and -30s at this hour (6 AM NDT).

  • Temperatures rebound this afternoon into the minus single digits on the Island and minus teens in Labrador, under an abundance of province-wide sunshine.

  • Tonight will be clear and cold once more across much of NL.

  • Friday starts sunny and dry across the Province, but clouds roll onto the Island in the afternoon ahead of an incoming low-pressure centre that promises to bring another round of snow Friday evening through Saturday morning to virtually all of Newfoundland. Snowfall amounts will be highest in the south and east, where 10 to 20 cm looks quite likely this morning. A Special Weather Statement has been issued by Environment Canada.

  • That will be followed by yet another system late Sunday afternoon/evening into Monday. This looks like a snow-to-rain situation for the Island, while Labrador will see some snow.

NL’s forecast for today, April 2, 2026

Watching Friday night into Saturday…

Another round of snow will move into western areas Friday afternoon, and will work across the Island reaching eastern areas overnight. The snow will end in the west early Saturday morning, while eastern areas and the Avalon will not see the snow end until late morning or early afternoon. Snowfall amounts don’t look overly heavy, but the potential is certainly there for up to 20 cm in the south, while the Northern Peninsula will see less than 5 cm.
