Thursday Morning Update — February 5, 2026
Metro area / Northeast Avalon temps as of 5:51 AM NST. Source → www.wunderground.com
It’s a cold start for some areas of the Metro region this morning, under clear skies and light winds. The lowest reading I can find is -14ºC in the Waterford Valley area of St. John’s.
Good Thursday Morning!
Here are today’s weather highlights:
For the first time in a very long time, the wind speeds are nearly calm over a large chunk of the Island this morning. Yay!
Generally quiet weather across the Province again this morning, with more clouds and a few more flurries compared to yesterday.
An area of low pressure passes southeast of the Avalon today, and will be far enough offshore that its snow should remain offshore.
More widespread flurries are expected to develop over eastern and central Newfoundland tonight and Friday morning before ending, and I expect an uneventful Friday.
An area of low pressure will pass southeast of the Avalon Friday night and Saturday, and could be close enough to bring the easternmost Peninsula a little snow. This will become clearer later today.

Newfoundland’s forecast for Thursday
Skies will start sunny in the east, but almost everywhere else it will be cloudy or mostly cloudy. Those clouds will take hold in the east and linger elsewhere through the day. There will be pockets of flurries and light snow under the clouds, central, south, west, and on the Northern Peninsula today. Afternoon highs reach the single digits below zero. And somehow wind speeds will remain light through the day!

Labrador forecast for Thursday
Labrador’s temperatures as of 6:02 NST (5:32 AM AST) on February 5, 2026
Partly to mostly cloudy skies along and south of the TLH and into the Straits today. Along much of the coast and areas in the interior north of Labrador West, expect lots of sunshine. High temperatures generally reach the minus teens, except closer to -20ºC in the west. Winds in the Big Land will also, generally, be on the lighter side today. There will be some flurries near Eagle River and throughout Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Watching Friday Night…
A low-pressure area will pass east of the Avalon Peninsula between Friday night and Saturday. This low looks to remain far enough offshore that its significant snowfall should also remain east of the Southern Shore. That being said, this low still may graze the area with some snow. I say may because there is tremendous uncertainty about how close this will be as it passes, and I’m not confident enough at this point to say it will remain dry. Stay tuned on this one!
