Another quiet night on tap, followed by some slight changes Thursday and Friday — and an offshore low Saturday…
It was a cold start across parts of Newfoundland and Labrador this morning, with Badger dropping to –25°C, and Deer Lake and Churchill Falls not far behind. Despite that deep chill, temperatures recovered nicely through the day, climbing back into the minus single digits across much of Newfoundland, and minus teens to single digits across Labrador.

Tonight and Thursday
Clear skies and relatively light winds will allow temperatures to drop again tonight:
Island: –6°C to –12°C, with some colder pockets
Labrador: minus teens to minus 20s
Thursday will feature sunshine along the Labrador coast, with more cloud cover elsewhere. A few scattered flurries are possible across interior and western Newfoundland, parts of Labrador, and perhaps even the southeast Avalon, though that risk looks lower than earlier today as a low pressure system pulls away to the northeast.
Friday into the Weekend
Flurries may linger into Friday morning, with many areas picking up a centimetre or two at most before conditions improve. Winds turn more northerly, but overall snowfall amounts remain minimal through Friday.
Saturday is where things get more interesting.
There is an offshore low pressure system that I’ve been monitoring since yesterday. Some computer model guidance — particularly the European model and its AI-based counterparts — has been trending slightly more northwest with this system. That shift brings the possibility that snow could brush the Avalon Peninsula on Saturday.
This is not a certainty. The system could still trend east or shift again. But it’s close enough that it’s worth keeping an eye on. The goal here isn’t to overhype or dismiss the threat — it’s to make sure no one is caught off guard either way.
Looking Ahead
In Labrador, temperatures along the coast moderate heading into next week. That pattern may help set the stage for a snowier setup across parts of central, eastern, and possibly western Newfoundland later on. Snow chances increase along the north coast and western Newfoundland starting Saturday and could linger into early next week.
For now, though, the next couple of days look calm and relatively quiet, and that’s not a bad thing.
I’ll have my next update posted tomorrow morning!
