Sunshine through Friday, Followed By More Rain For The Weekend?

The humidity is still hanging on across parts of Newfoundland this afternoon, but there are signs that some drier air is beginning to work in.
As of just before 3 PM Wednesday, humidex values were still near 30 in places like St. John’s and Terra Nova, while Cape Race and St. Lawrence were sitting around 32. Dew points remain in the upper teens to near 20°C in some areas, which is enough to keep things feeling very muggy. The good news is that drier air will gradually become more noticeable this evening and Thursday.
That should also help set up a more comfortable night. Most of Newfoundland will fall into the lower and middle teens under partly cloudy to mostly clear skies. There may still be a few isolated showers or thunderstorms this evening, particularly around the Witless Bay Line/Bauline East area, but those should fade away overnight.
Thursday looks very good across the province.
Newfoundland should see mainly sunny skies with highs generally in the lower to middle 20s, and potentially the upper 20s in a few warmer spots. Labrador will also enjoy plenty of sunshine, with temperatures climbing into the middle and upper 20s from Labrador City toward Cartwright and Mary’s Harbour. It will remain cooler along parts of the north coast.
Friday looks much the same across Newfoundland, with another day of sunshine and temperatures in the middle to upper 20s.
The first sign of a change will show up in Labrador West, where showers are expected to develop Friday afternoon as an area of low pressure approaches. Some thunderstorms may also develop there before the system begins pushing farther east and south.
By early Saturday morning, rain should be spreading into the south and west coasts of Newfoundland, southeastern Labrador and the Straits. From there, rain is expected to affect a good portion of Newfoundland through Saturday, although the steadier rain may become increasingly focused on eastern areas by midday.
Temperatures on the Island should still reach the lower 20s Saturday and Sunday, but a more noticeable cooldown appears to be developing for next week as we head into the beginning of September.
Labrador will also cool down over the weekend, particularly in Labrador West and around Churchill Falls, where highs may fall back into the teens Saturday and Sunday.
So the next couple of days are the ones to take advantage of. Thursday and Friday both look warm, bright and summer-like across much of Newfoundland and Labrador before rain returns for at least part of the weekend.
