Sunday Morning Weather Update - August 2, 2026

Yesterday's low is departing, and we are seeing some northerly/northwest flow behind it. That is leading to extensive cloud cover over much of Newfoundland this morning, but it is generally not as foggy and damp as what we dealt with on Saturday. Today should be an improvement for many of us, but that's not saying much. Highs reach the mid-teens to near 20ºC this afternoon, and skies will remain more cloudy than not.
In the Big Land, the weather will be a bit more active today, especially in the north and west. Highs reach the teens to middle/upper 20s. The warmest readings will be in the north and west. With that kind of daytime heating, expect a fair bit of shower and thunderstorm activity to fire up through the afternoon across interior and western Labrador.

Looking Ahead
The bigger story this week is the warm-up that builds in by mid-week. Thursday and Friday are shaping up to be notably warm across the Province, with highs well above normal for early August. The warmth looks to peak Thursday before easing back toward the weekend. More on that in the days ahead.
