Monday started on the windier side across Newfoundland and Labrador, with the strongest gusts found in the southwest. Places like St. Andrews peaked close to 140 km/h as a deep area of low pressure sat over the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

As that low shifts into Labrador tonight, the weather will gradually improve for much of Newfoundland, but not everywhere at once.

Newfoundland – Tonight & Tuesday

  • Tonight:

    • West coast, southwest coast, and south coast will hang onto flurries, showers, and some rain through the night and into early Tuesday.

  • Tuesday:

    • Eastern Newfoundland looks quite nice with a fair bit of sunshine and highs around 7–8°C.

    • West coast, northern Peninsula, and parts of the south/southwest coast will see on-and-off showers with high-elevation flurries.

    • Higher terrain areas like Wiltondale and into Gros Morne National Park may see some wet snow, and the hills there will likely look snow-covered.

    • Communities like Rocky Harbour, Cow Head, and Shallow Bay can expect showers through the day.

    • If it were a little colder, this setup would be perfect for snow squalls – but it’s just not cold enough this time.

Labrador – Snow, Rain & Wind

  • Labrador West will see snow overnight, and by the time it wraps up late Tuesday, some areas could pick up as much as 20 cm.

  • Travel along the Trans-Labrador Highway from Goose Bay to Wabush will be very wintry through Tuesday, so keep that in mind if you’re on the road.

  • For Goose Bay and coastal/low-lying parts of Labrador, temperatures sit a couple of degrees above freezing, so even if the models paint snow, most of what falls tonight and Tuesday will be rain.

Wind

  • Winds will ramp up again overnight for southern and western Newfoundland, with gusts in the 60–70 km/h range along the west and southwest coasts – not as extreme as earlier today, but still gusty.

  • Through Tuesday, we keep gusty winds over the Gulf, and Labrador West and parts of coastal Labrador will also see strong gusts, especially north of Wabush and Lab City.

Mid-Week Outlook

Beyond that, it’s a quieter stretch:

  • Tuesday and Wednesday look relatively calm overall.

  • The mid-week trend is for improving weather across much of the province.

  • Things may turn a bit more active again as we head toward the weekend.
