Monday Morning Weather Brief — November 17, 2025

Good Monday Morning!

It’s just before 6:30 a.m., and if you’re up early, you’ve probably already noticed the rain, the wind, and the general “good morning for a strong cup of coffee” vibe out there.

We’re starting the day with heavy rain across the Avalon, extending into the northeast coast and back toward Terra Nova and the southern shore. Rainfall rates early this morning have been running 10–12 mm/hour in parts of the metro and surrounding areas. Expect several more hours of rain before things gradually taper this afternoon.

This morning’s update is sponsored by Roebothan, McKay, Marshall.

A Slow-Moving System

A large, complex area of low pressure is stalled to our south. With a warm front, cold front, and occlusion wrapped into it, this system is spreading plenty of moisture onto the island—and there’s more to come through the day. Snow is also beginning to push into parts of Labrador.

Windy Morning Across the Province

Winds are already strong in the east this morning, with gusts 70–80 km/h reported in spots and enhanced southeasterlies along the west coast.

  • Wind warnings continue for the south coast, northeast coast, and west coast.

  • Along the west coast, gusts may reach 80–110 km/h this morning.

  • Wreckhouse saw gusts close to 140 km/h overnight, strong enough to cause more transport issues.

In eastern Newfoundland, winds will peak through the morning and ease later this afternoon and evening.

Coastal Flooding – Southwest Newfoundland

High tide this morning is bringing elevated water levels along the Port aux Basques region. Water levels peaked around 2.16 metres, slightly above astronomical high tide. Minor coastal flooding is likely in low-lying areas until tides recede. If water is rising near your property, it’s always best to move to higher ground.

Today’s Rain & Snow

  • Most of the heavy rain for eastern and southern Newfoundland ends by midday.

  • Temperatures rise to 9–12°C, giving the day more of a “spring” feel than mid-November.

  • Labrador sees widespread snow inland and rain along parts of the coast. Snowfall amounts of 10–20 cm are possible for western and central Labrador, especially higher elevations.

  • Goose Bay area sees 5–6 cm, but more is likely just inland.

  • Only light wet snow or flurries expected for Newfoundland tonight into Tuesday, mainly at higher elevations.

Road Conditions to Watch

If you're traveling in Labrador—from Red Bay north through Mary’s Harbour or Port Hope Simpson—expect rain changing to snow as you get inland toward Cartwright Junction.

The TLH between Goose Bay and Labrador West will be snowy today with accumulating snow over a long duration.

More Updates Coming

This is your early morning update. I’ll have more through the day, including a special announcement at noon from Honda Town in Carbonear—something fun that’ll be happening over the next few weeks.

Stay safe, take it slow on the roads, and keep an eye on the Sheerr Weather app for live radar and alerts.
