Quiet week ahead as the tropics remain VERY active

Cool Air Moves In – Frost Risk Mid-Week

Warm temperatures ruled the roost across most of Newfoundland on Monday, while Labrador stayed much cooler. By Tuesday, the cool air over Labrador spreads across the island, meaning the 15°C readings many enjoyed today will quickly become a distant memory.

Tonight:

  • Winds ease across most of Newfoundland but strengthen along the Labrador coast.

  • Overnight lows: 5–8°C on the island and through most of the BIg Land, execept near 0°C in Happy Valley–Goose Bay.

  • A few showers are possible in central and northeast Newfoundland.

Tuesday:

  • Labrador: highs 5–12°C, breezy along the coast.

  • Newfoundland: generally 5–12°C, slightly warmer along the south coast, which will see the best mix of sun and warmth.

  • Winds are lighter across the island late in the day, setting the stage for a patchy frost risk early Wednesday morning.

Wednesday–Thursday:

  • Risk of frost on the Island early Wednesday morning.

  • Highs mainly 5–10°C province-wide.

  • Lots of sunshine for Newfoundland, cloudy and cool in Labrador.

  • Some scattered showers possible but nothing widespread.

  • By Thursday, slightly milder air begins returning.

Looking Ahead:
By Friday and into the weekend, warmer air pushes back into the region. Many areas could return to the teens, especially eastern Newfoundland and parts of Labrador.

Tropical Update:

  • Hurricane Humberto: A strong Category 4 system southeast of Bermuda, tracking well away from Atlantic Canada later this week.

  • Tropical Storm Imelda: Forecast to strengthen into a hurricane, possibly brushing Bermuda mid-week before curving out into the Atlantic. Remnants may pass near the Grand Banks this weekend, but no significant impacts are expected locally beyond some drizzle.
