Tuesday Morning Weather Brief — September 30, 2025

Good Tuesday morning!

Today is Truth and Reconciliation Day. It’s a time to pause and reflect on the painful history of residential schools in Canada, and to honour Survivors, their families, and Indigenous communities. Here in Newfoundland and Labrador, it serves as a reminder of the importance of listening to and learning from the Indigenous voices in our own province — including those of the Mi’kmaq, Innu, Inuit, Southern Inuit, and Beothuk peoples. Wearing orange, attending local events, or simply taking a few minutes to read and reflect are small ways we can all show our support.

We are starting off the day with cool temperatures across the Province. Readings in Labrador are currently in the single digits, while most of the Island portion of the Province is somewhere between 5º and 10º.

Radar imagery at this early hour suggests there are a few showers over the Bay de Verde Peninsula. Outside of that, we are likely to see some scattered showers near and along the West Coast, as well as parts of coastal and western Labrador. For the most part, these showers are light, but if you’re heading out the door this morning, it is something to keep in mind.

Weather-wise, today we are looking at a mix of sun and cloud across the Province with scattered showers. On the Island, the best chance of showers for western and central areas will be this morning into the early afternoon, while eastern areas, including the Avalon, will see a high chance of showers later this afternoon and this evening. Coastal Labrador will also experience a high chance of showers this morning, with the chances decreasing throughout the day. Temperatures will generally peak between 5 °C and 12 °C province-wide today. The coolest readings will be in Labrador.

Today's forecast for NL

Parts of coastal Labrador, from near Makkovik to Black Tickle, will see some high wind gusts today, possibly in excess of 70 km/h. While the entire coast will experience breezy conditions, the mentioned areas will see the highest winds. The wind speeds are expected to decrease this evening and tonight. Parts of the Island will also be a tad breezy today, but that’s nothing out of the ordinary.

The tropics remain active this morning with both Hurricane Humberto and Tropical Storm Imelda in close proximity to one another. While these storms are notable, direct impacts for most areas are unlikely. That being said, Bermuda is under. Hurricane Watch, as it does look like Imelda is going to pass over the Island tomorrow night. Below are the forecast tracks for the two storms. At this point, I don’t see either one directly impacting the weather in Atlantic Canada.
