New wildfire burning in Lethbridge prompts evacuations

The RCMP NL is responding to a fire near Route 233 near Sexton Lumber in Lethbridge this evening. Earlier this afternoon, residents of the Bayview area were asked to immediately evacuate. Police search and rescue are in the area to inform and assist.

According to the RCMP, Route 233 is impassible in both directions to all traffic. The RCMP is always asking people to follow all directions from first responders.

The local fire department and the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and Agriculture are also responding to the fire. Reports received from residents in the area suggest three water bombers are currently fighting the fire. The video below was sent to me by Erica Barrett earlier this afternoon.

As more details become available, I will pass them along via the app, website, and my social channels.
