St. John’s is closing in on a remarkable weather milestone. As of today, the city has recorded 76 days with highs at or above 20°C this year. That makes 2025 the third warmest stretch on record since 1942 — trailing only 2012 and 2022.
With the forecast calling for more 20s through Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, the chance of setting a new all-time record is very real. If we can tack on just four more warm days, the 2025 tally will top the charts at St. John’s International Airport.
Weekend Forecast
Saturday – Warmest day of the weekend, with many areas across the Island reaching the 20s. Labrador West will see morning showers before conditions improve later in the day.
Sunday – More unsettled, with showers spreading across western and southwestern Newfoundland and pushing northeast through the day. Humidity will rise, bringing a sticky feel and some fog along south-facing shores.
Labrador – Showers Saturday will give way to a drier Sunday, though temperatures stay on the cool side in Goose Bay.
Watching the Tropics
It’s also the time of year when eyes turn east. A wave off the coast of Africa currently has a 70% chance of developing into a tropical system in the next five days, though it poses no immediate threat.
Final Word
For anyone taking part in the recreational food fishery this weekend, conditions look fair but breezy. Be mindful of winds on the water and check the official marine forecast before heading out.
As the warmth continues and the humidity builds, the record books may soon need an update — and I’ll be watching closely to see if 2025 goes down as the warmest stretch yet in St. John’s
