It’s just before 4:00 PM on Monday, September 8, 2025, and humidity values are still near 30% across parts of eastern and northeastern Newfoundland. Cooler and drier air will move in overnight.
Showers were heavy on the west coast earlier but have shifted mainly to central and eastern areas. These will become less widespread this evening. A cold front offshore will push additional rain away before reaching the Avalon and southeast.
In Labrador, showers are ongoing along the coast with some wet snow showing up over eastern Quebec. Behind the cold front, much cooler air is settling in—Wabush was only 8°C this afternoon, compared with 23°C in St. John’s.
Today’s high of 24°C in St. John’s marks the 79th day this year with a high of at least 20°C, tying records set in 2012 and 2022. Whether we break the record depends on the next few weeks—19°C is forecast for Wednesday.
What to Expect
Tonight: Showers easing for the Island, lingering rain on the Labrador coast. Overnight lows in the teens for Newfoundland, near 2°C in western Labrador.

Wednesday: Quiet on the Island with highs mid-teens to near 20. In Labrador, cloudy with rain developing late.
Thursday: Turning cooler and wetter. Merging systems bring widespread rain to Labrador and a chance of rain for southern and eastern Newfoundland.
