Monday Morning’s Weather Briefing — September 7, 2026
Good Monday Morning! Here are today’s highlights
The heaviest and steadiest rain is over, but areas of showers and thunderstorms will persist over much of Newfoundland and southeast Labrador today.
Rainfall totals over much of eastern and northeastern Newfoundland ranged from 50 to 90 mm since Saturday (through this morning). Lesser, but still significant amounts have been observed elsewhere.
Temperatures will be cool today, with highs generally in the teens to low 20s across the Province. The 20s will be reserved for Labrador.
The weather improves a little for Tuesday, but we are still going to be dealing with showers across much of the Island and cool temperatures. Wednesday looks nicer…

Rain has been heavy since Saturday evening over parts of eastern and northeastern Newfoundland, where amounts over 70 mm have been observed in a few places. Areas of central and western Newfoundland, along with parts of the South Coast, have also seen high rainfall amounts but generally lower than areas farther east or north.

Today’s Outlook
Highs reach the teens to near 20 on the Island under cloudy to mostly cloudy skies. There will be areas of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. These will be found across the island, and it’s hard to pinpoint which areas will see the most activity. Futurecast (below) shows that well. Some of the showers that we do see will be quite heavy, but unlike yesterday, they will only be short-lived over any given location.
Tuesday will see similar weather as the low departs and Wednesday does look nicer. I’ll have a more detailed forecast update this afternoon.
