Areas of showers and pockets of rain will continue across much of the Island today in the wake of our departing low-pressure center and its associated cold front. The showers will be most prevalent over central, western, and southern Newfoundland today before shifting toward the eastern side of the Island tonight. Long story short, today is not a good day to do an activity that requires a dry day. Highs reach the mid-teens for most areas today, except the upper teens in the east. Temperatures in the east will fall back into the lower to mid-teens this afternoon as the wind shifts from westerly to northerly.

Future radar and satellite shows how the showers and pockets of rain will play out today. While there will be some areas of sunshine, the unstable nature of today’s airmass will keep the showers ongoing and I cannot rule out a fully dry day anyone on the Island.

Labrador will also see areas of showers this morning in the same northerly flow. However, most of the shower activity in the Big Land will end by the early afternoon, and that will set the stage for a lovely second half of the day. Highs reach the upper single digits, near 10º, today.

Labrador's forecast for today. September 8, 2026

The clearing skies and light winds that arrive in Labrador later today will set the stage for a cool night. In fact, many areas will see temperatures near or below freezing tonight— a sure sign of the season’s lengthening nights and cooling days. Temperatures across Newfoundland will remain above freezing tonight.

The weather improves for Wednesday before our next weather-maker brings another round of rain and wind to the region between late Wednesday and Friday.

I’ll have my next update later today!
