Monday morning weather brief — September 1, 2025

Good Monday Morning and happy Labour Day!

Sunday’s showers and thunderstorms made for some very dramatic skies over parts of central Newfoundland Sunday evening. Check out this post-storm-sky that was oberved over Grand Falls-Windsor shortly before sunset.

The showers and storms that we saw yesterday developed in the late morning over parts of western and interior Newfoundland and tracked northeast. Another area of rain moved over the Avalon Peninsula and parts of eastern Newfoundland late in the day. Yesterday’s radar loop illustrated this very well.

Today will not be nearly as active across the Province. This morning, we are starting the day with mostly sunny skies. The exception is over eastern regions, where we are still looking at some lingering cloud cover and pockets of drizzle. In fact, we are looking at a very quiet and generally sunny Labor Day, with seasonable to below-normal temperatures on the Island and well above-normal readings in Labrador.

Tomorrow looks similar to today, except temperatures on the Island will be back into the 20s, and parts of Labrador will be into the middle and upper 20s. There will be a few showers over the northern areas of Labrador.

The next chance of rain over eastern Newfoundland will be on Wednesday. Wednesday will also see some afternoon showers and possible thunderstorms over a large chunk of Labrador.

I’ll have more details on the extended forecast in this afternoon’s update. Have a great day!
