Heavy Rain Moves East Tonight, Much Nicer Wednesday Ahead

It has been a very warm and humid Tuesday across much of Newfoundland, especially in the east, where Humidex values climbed well into the 30s during the afternoon.
The humidity has been impressive, but the bigger weather story heading into Tuesday evening is the rain moving across the province.
A deep plume of moisture is being directed northward toward Newfoundland, helping to produce pockets of heavy rainfall across parts of the island. The rain has been progressing from west to east through the afternoon and will continue doing so tonight.
Heavy rain shifts east tonight
Areas of heavier rain will become increasingly focused on eastern Newfoundland through the evening and overnight hours.
Parts of eastern Newfoundland west of the Avalon, including areas around Clarenville, the Isthmus and Bonavista Bay, will see periods of rain through the evening before the heaviest moisture shifts farther east.
The Avalon Peninsula will then see its heaviest rain overnight.
Current guidance suggests rainfall totals could reach around 50 mm over parts of the southern Avalon, while totals generally decrease farther north toward the St. John's area.
The heaviest rain should begin winding down around 5 or 6 Wednesday morning, with conditions improving quickly afterward.
Tonight will remain mild, humid and sticky across eastern and northeastern Newfoundland. Farther west, noticeably drier and more comfortable air is already beginning to move in.
A much better Wednesday
Wednesday is looking significantly quieter across Newfoundland and Labrador.
Eastern areas may begin the morning with some cloud cover, but much of the province will see a mix of sun and cloud through the day.
There could still be a few isolated showers or thunderstorms over interior Newfoundland, along with some scattered showers in Labrador, but most areas should stay dry.
Temperatures across Newfoundland will generally reach the lower to middle 20s, with some areas climbing into the upper 20s.
St. John's is currently forecast to reach around 24°C, although if sunshine arrives earlier in the day, temperatures could easily climb into the 26°C to 27°C range.
Labrador will generally see highs in the upper teens to lower 20s.
A nice stretch to end the week
The overall pattern through the rest of the week looks fairly quiet.
Thursday and Friday are both shaping up nicely for much of Newfoundland and Labrador, with warm temperatures continuing in many areas.
There may be some showers around on Saturday, followed by somewhat cooler temperatures heading into Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
