Tuesday Morning’s Weather Briefing — August 25th, 2026
Good Tuesday Morning! Here are today’s highlights
We are looking at areas of heavy showers, spread across much of Newfoundland this morning.
An area of heavy rain will arrive on the south coast within the next few hours.
It’s extremely muggy on the Island, with temperatures at 20º, dew points near 20º, and humidex values already near 30 in most areas. It’s a bit more comfortable in Labrador, where temps are in the lower to mid-teens this morning.
It will be warm and humid for much of the Island today and hot and humid in parts of the Avalon, especially northern areas and the Metro. Temperatures will easily climb into the mid-20s, and with any sunshine it’ll be closer to 30ºC, before we factor in the humidity. Humidex values will peak near 40 today in some locations.
Areas of heavy rain will fall over and near the South Coast this morning, followed by the Connaigre area, the Burin and Avalon Peninsulas later today, tonight, and into early Wednesday. The risk of thunderstorms is in the cards as well.
It is becoming less likely that Tropical Storm Dolly will form near Bermuda, but moisture from that system will enhance rainfall later today and tonight over eastern Newfoundland.

Newfoundland today
It will be a warm, muggy Tuesday across most of Newfoundland today. Areas of rain, showers, and possible thunderstorms will shift from the western third of the Island this morning toward southern and central areas this afternoon and then the eastern third of the Island this evening and tonight. The rain we see over eastern areas tonight will be enhanced by an influx of tropical moisture and could be quite heavy for several hours over the Burin and Avalon Peninsulas. Special Weather Statements are in effect for the mentioned areas due to tonight’s heavy rain threat. Futurecast (below) shows how the rain will play out today.
There will also be the threat of some thunderstorms today and tonight. Initially, the storm threat is to the west and south, but that will shift to southeastern and eastern Newfoundland later today and tonight. Even the Metro has a chance of seeing some thunderstorms, especially this evening.
Temperatures today will peak in the lower to mid-20s for most of the Island, and there will be some fog along and near the south-facing shores. Some spots along the northeast coast (think here Lumsden) and on the northern parts of the Avalon (Metro included) may see some sun today. If that is the case, temperatures will reach the upper 20s to dare I say near 30ºC and humidex values will creep into the mid 30s to near 40 for virtually all areas. But the highest values will be where the sun comes out. The maps below illustrate the point well.
The weather improves early Wednesday as this system kicks out, but temperatures will remain warm; however, it shouldn’t be as humid as this tropical air mass gets the boot offshore.
Labrador Today
The day starts dry and generally sunny, but numerous showers and thundersotrms will devleop this afternoon south of a low. some of the storm will be strong but most should be over remote areas. The Happy Valley-Goose Bay area may be put under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch later today as there is quite a bit of activity forecast to be in that area.
Highs reach the upper teens in the west to lower and middle 20s for much of the coast and the Goose Bay area.
