Frost Advisory Tonight for Central, Western, and Southern Newfoundland
Frost Advisory in effect tonight (June 12 into 13, 2026) as lows are expected to be near freezing in many areas.
Environment Canada has issued a frost advisory for a big chunk of the Island tonight. If you've already got the garden going, you may want to take some precautions tonight.
Who's Under the Advisory
The advisory covers Central, parts of the West Coast and the south coast:
Burin Peninsula
Connaigre
Burgeo – Ramea
Corner Brook and vicinity
Deer Lake – Humber Valley
Gros Morne
Buchans and the interior
Grand Falls-Windsor and vicinity
Green Bay – White Bay
Parson's Pond – Hawke's Bay
The Avalon is not included this time around.
What to Expect
Clear skies, light winds, and cool air all line up tonight — the classic recipe for frost. Minimum temperatures will run from -3º to 3º, with the coolest readings in low-lying areas. Valleys and hollows will feel it first.
The frost risk runs overnight Friday into early Saturday morning.
One bit of good news: spots right along the coast may hold a few degrees warmer, which could keep frost from forming there. But anywhere inland or down in a low spot should plan for it.
What to Do
We're in the growing season now, so this one matters. Frost can damage plants, trees, and crops. If you've got anything tender in the ground or in planters, cover it tonight or bring it inside. Old bedsheets work fine — just get them on before sunset and off in the morning.
Forecast confidence on this one is high, so don't bank on it missing you.
Stay warm tonight — and check the app for your local overnight low.
