Good Friday Morning! Here are today’s highlights
Highs reach the middle to upper teens across most of Newfoundland today, as scattered showers remain on the go.
The West Coast and GNP will be the exception — showers will be more persistent, and temps peak in the lower teens.
Rain continues in Labrador today around and near a low. The rain tapers to showers and ends in most areas by evening.
It’ll be breezy on the Island today, with gusts to 50 km/h possible from the west or west-northwest.
A core of high winds will move down the coast of Labrador today from north to south, bringing northeasterly gusts to 70 km/h. These will be found on the North Coast this morning and will gradually move south through the day, reaching the Straits by evening.

We're in that in-between stage this morning. An area of low pressure is pulling away off the Labrador coast, and the cold front trailing south of it is draped right across Newfoundland — running from near Botwood down toward Grand Bank on the Burin Peninsula.
Both the low and the front are moving east today. That's the good news: the weather across the Island will generally improve as the day goes on. The catch is that we're still dealing with a few disturbances aloft rolling through behind the front, and that's enough to keep showers on the go.
The Island
Expect occasional showers across most of Newfoundland today, even as conditions slowly trend better. Nothing prolonged — more of a hit-and-miss setup as those disturbances swing through. The West Coast is the exception. With the flow coming in off the water and a few ripples of energy working onshore, showers there will be more frequent than anywhere else on the Island. It'll be breezy too. Winds out of the west to west-northwest will gust 50 to 60 km/h across Newfoundland today.
Temperatures land in the middle to upper teens across Central NL and the East, and in the lower teens on the West Coast and southwest. Cloud will be plentiful — sunshine is going to be at a premium.
The Northern Peninsula may get grazed by the stronger winds working down from Labrador this evening and tonight, with gusts as high as 60 km/h (animation below with Labrador’s forecast).

The Big Land
Labrador is having the busier day. Widespread rain showers are underway this morning, and those will begin to wind down from north to south this afternoon. Light rain hangs on longer for HVGB and area and much of the coast — especially north of the Straits — continuing through the day before finally winding down this evening. Temperatures reach the upper teens in southeastern Labrador, with single digits to around 10º elsewhere in the Big Land.

Wind is the bigger story. On the north side of the developing low, gusts to around 70 km/h are expected along the Labrador coast. The North Coast gets it first, and most coastal areas will be into it by this afternoon.
The Weekend
Saturday looks better. Things dry out across the Island, though northeastern Newfoundland holds onto a chance of showers through the first half of the day. Beyond that, the weekend is quiet here.
Labrador sees another round of showers on Sunday, but that's about the extent of it.
