A Decent Weekend Will Be Followed By Mid-Month Warm-Up Next Week

The weather is finally starting to turn the corner across Newfoundland and Labrador as the area of low pressure responsible for the recent unsettled conditions pulls away.
Showers will linger in a few areas overnight, particularly across southeastern Labrador, while parts of Newfoundland stay breezy. By Saturday morning, there may still be a few showers hanging around the Northern Peninsula, central Newfoundland and parts of the Bonavista and Avalon peninsulas (metro incldued), but those should gradually fade through the morning.
After that, the weekend starts looking a lot better. Saturday will be cooler behind the departing cold front, with highs generally in the lower to middle teens across Newfoundland. Labrador will be cooler still, with highs mostly between 8°C and 13°C. There will be some cloud around, especially earlier in the day, but sunshine should become more widespread as the day goes on.
Sunday looks even better across much of Newfoundland. Most areas on the Island should climb close to 20°C under generally sunny skies, making for a very pleasant September day. Labrador will also warm up, especially around Happy Valley-Goose Bay, where temperatures could reach the lower 20s.
There will be a few showers moving through parts of Labrador on Sunday, particularly in the west and around Goose Bay, but that is also a sign of a warmer weather pattern beginning to take hold.
And that warmer pattern looks like it may stick around for a while. High pressure building southeast of the province will help push milder air northward next week. Across much of Newfoundland, highs are expected to remain in the upper teens to near 20°C through much of the week, with relatively little rain showing up in the forecast.
Labrador will also stay fairly mild for the time of year. Western areas will be somewhat cooler, but southern Labrador, Goose Bay and even portions of the north should spend much of next week in the middle to upper teens.
So after a cooler Saturday, the overall trend is a good one: improving skies, a beautiful Sunday for much of Newfoundland and a stretch of mild, relatively quiet weather carrying us toward the middle of September. Summer may not be finished with us just yet…
