Friday Morning’s Weather Brief — July 24, 2026
Good Friday Morning! Here are some highlights on the day(s) ahead:
Showers and possible thunderstorms will be found over eastern Newfoundland this afternoon and evening.
It remains very muggy for much of southern and eastern Newfoundland today. There will be areas of fog and drizzle along and near south-facing shores. The fog in some areas will be quite thick (like on the Isthmus of the Avalon)
The very humid air will start to get pushed east of the western third or so of Newfoundland today as a cold front moves east.
Highs reach the lower to middle 20s for most, with humidex values into the lower and middle 30s.
Highs in Labrador climb into the 20s, and there will be some scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

Newfoundland Today
The muggy air that's been parked over the island all week is finally on the move — but slowly, and from the west first. A cold front sliding east through the day will scour the humidity out of the western third of Newfoundland; Corner Brook is already sitting near 14°C this morning with a noticeably fresher feel, and highs there should only reach the upper teens to around 20°C. East of that boundary it's another sticky one. St. John's is starting the day near 20°C with dewpoints still up around 20º… which means its very, very muggy! And the Avalon, the Burin and the Northeast Coast will climb into the lower to middle 20s — Gander near 24, St. John's near 23 — with humidex values pushing into the lower and middle 30s. Fog and drizzle will hang tough along and near south-facing shores, and it'll be thick in spots. The Isthmus is the usual suspect, so leave yourself extra time and take it slow through there. Then, through this afternoon and into the evening, showers and a few thunderstorms go up over eastern Newfoundland ahead of and along the front. In air this moist, any storm that gets going can drop a lot of rain in a hurry, so keep an eye to the sky if you've got outdoor plans.
Labrador Today
The Big Land gets in on the warmth today as well, with highs climbing into the 20s across much of the region — Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Cartwright both near 24°C, a few degrees above where we'd normally sit in late July. Western Labrador runs cooler with more cloud around; Labrador City and Wabush look closer to 18–20°C. The trade-off for that heat is instability, and scattered showers and thunderstorms will bubble up through the afternoon, mostly over the interior where daytime heating does the work. These will be hit-and-miss — plenty of communities stay dry — but where one sets up you can pick up a quick downpour, gusty winds and some lightning in short order. Worth keeping tabs on if you're on the water or out on the trails.
