Friday Morning Weather Brief | August 1, 2025
Happy Friday
We are beginning the day with temperatures in the teens (mostly) and single digits across the Province. Overall, it’s a fairly comfortable start to the day.
I am currently monitoring isolated showers over southern areas of the Island at this early hour. Based on a combination of computer model data and webcams, the rain along the coast of Labrador appears to have mostly ended as the area of low pressure has pulled away from the coast.
This morning’s update is sponsored by Roebothan, McKay and Marshall.

FRIDAY’S FORECAST
The weather across NL for Friday looks relatively tame. On the Island, I’m expecting sunny skies for most areas. The exception will be the Avalon and Burin Peninsulas, where clouds this morning will give way to sunny skies this afternoon. The animation below should help you time that out very well. I am not expecting anything more than isolated showers on the Island today.
Labrador will see a mix of sun and cloud today, with scattered showers. To my eyes, it does look like some afternoon showers or thunderstorms will crop up along and near the coast, thanks to the sea breeze front moving inland. This will act as a little convergence zone. Yesterday, there was some hail in the Cartwright area, and today there is a good chance we will see something similar.

The Weekend Sneak Peek
The weekend starts quietly across the Province and will stay that way on the Island. Saturday will be a bit of a cooler day for the Avalon and Bonavista Peninsulas thanks to a brief stint of onshore wind. While there may be some coastal fog in the morning, I do not expect this to be an issue on Saturday. Even with the onshore flow, I expect sunny skies from the east coast to the west and from the GNP to the South Coast. Labrador will see a quiet and sunny day as well, Saturday, with just a few showers near the coast in the afternoon. Sunday will be similar on the Island, albeit a little more breezy, while Labrador will see more in the way of afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
Have a great Friday, and my afternoon update and fishery forecast will be posted this afternoon.
