The synopsis

We are expecting a few showers over parts of central and western Newfoundland this evening, but overall, they are scattered, and there is far less of that right now than there was at this time yesterday. Rain is ongoing at this hour along the coast of Labrador, and that will persist into the overnight before ending Friday morning.

Friday looks nice across much of the Province, with a mix of sun and cloud over much of the Island and decreasing clouds over Labrador as an area of low pressure pulls away. The exception will be the Avlaon Peninsula. Although it does not look rainy, it will be cloudy. We can thank this to an area of low pressure taking shape off the eastern seaboard. This low should pass far enough offshore Friday night into Saturday that the rain misses the easternmost Peninsula. That being said, a slight shift northward would result in rain moving into the southeast Avalon.

This low will depart Saturday morning, and in its wake will be a cooler day for parts of northeast and eastern Newfoundland in onshore, northeast flow. That being said, it still looks to be sunny. Warmer temperatures return for Sunday. The low will drive the wave heights up a bit, so for those of you taking part in the Recreational Food Fishery this weekend, you may have to take a peek at the offshore waters for the forecast. I’ll have that posted tomorrow. Still, you can also consult Environment Canada’s forecast.
