Environment Canada issues Air Quality Alert for the Bonavista Peninsula

Smoke from a nearby wildfire is currently impacting air quality in parts of the Bonavista Peninsula. A Special Air Quality Statement has been issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada, warning of potentially reduced air quality — especially near and downwind of Chance Harbour, where an active wildfire is burning.

Current Wind Conditions

  • Northwesterly winds at 20 km/h (except southeast winds along parts of the coast)

  • Winds will shift to southwesterly 15 km/h this evening

  • Pregnant individuals

  • Infants and young children

  • People with chronic illnesses or respiratory conditions
