Another brilliant day is on tap for Thursday… but then we start to see some changes

After a solid stretch of sunshine across much of Newfoundland and Labrador today, the quiet weather isn’t going anywhere just yet.

Tonight stays clear right across the province, and with that comes a drop in temperatures. Most areas will fall to near or below freezing overnight, so it’ll be a chilly start to Thursday.

That said, Thursday is shaping up to be another really nice day.

Sunshine will dominate again for most of us, and temperatures will climb a bit higher than what we saw today. Inland areas of Newfoundland — especially central and northeastern regions — will push into the mid to upper teens. Parts of Labrador will do the same, particularly from Goose Bay westward. Coastal areas, as usual, will lag behind a bit, but still see plenty of sun.

So if you’ve been waiting for a stretch of calm, bright spring weather… this is it.

But changes are coming.

As we head into Friday, an easterly flow starts to take hold, and that’s when things begin to shift — especially along the east coast. Areas like Torbay and the eastern Avalon Peninsula could start to see fog developing later in the day. It won’t be widespread right away, but it’s the beginning of a trend.

By Saturday, that trend becomes much more noticeable.

Expect a foggier, cloudier, and more damp pattern for east-facing shorelines. There will also be some showers in the mix, although nothing particularly heavy or widespread. If you’re away from the east coast, you’ll likely hang on to more sunshine — it’s really a classic onshore flow setup.

Temperatures will also ease back a bit through the weekend, though still not far from seasonal.

This pattern is being driven by a high pressure system sliding east of the region. As it moves away, it opens the door for more moisture to wrap in on an easterly breeze. That’s what brings the fog, low cloud, and occasional drizzle — not a washout, but definitely a step back from the sunshine.

Looking ahead to next week, there are a few chances for rain in the forecast, but nothing major standing out right now.

For Labrador, temperatures remain near or slightly above seasonal norms over the next several days. There will be some chances for rain, especially in the west initially, with a better chance of more widespread precipitation by the middle of next week.

Bottom line: enjoy the sunshine while it’s here, because by the weekend, especially along the east coast, things turn a little more typical for spring in Newfoundland and Labrador — fog, clouds, and a few showers mixed in.
