A Nice Weekend Lies Ahead, But It's Not Without A Few Forecast Challenges

After a few days of changing weather, the weekend is shaping up to be pretty decent across most of Newfoundland and Labrador—provided you don't mind dodging the odd shower.
The showers that developed Friday will continue to wind down overnight, with most areas waking up to dry weather Saturday morning. There may still be a lingering shower over eastern Newfoundland around sunrise, but for the vast majority of the province, the day gets off to a quiet start.
Saturday looks like the better of the two weekend days. Most communities will stay dry, although a few isolated showers could pop up over the interior of Newfoundland and parts of Labrador during the afternoon. If you have outdoor plans—a hike, a barbecue, or a trip to the cabin—you'll probably be in pretty good shape. Just don't be surprised if a brief shower develops nearby.
If you're heading out on the water for the recreational food fishery, Saturday is also the day to go. While seas won't be dramatically different between Saturday and Sunday, the wind certainly will be. Light winds Saturday will make for much more comfortable boating conditions. By Sunday, a strengthening northerly wind will create much choppier conditions, especially across the Avalon Peninsula, Bonavista Bay, Notre Dame Bay and other north-facing coastlines.
Sunday is also the coolest day in the forecast. A low-pressure system passing east of the Avalon will pull cooler marine air across much of eastern Newfoundland. Temperatures will struggle to climb much beyond the low teens in many coastal communities, making it feel much more like early fall than the middle of July.
The good news is the coolest weather won't last. By Monday, temperatures begin climbing once again, and much of next week looks pleasantly warm with highs returning to the upper teens and low 20s. There will be a few opportunities for showers during the middle of the week, but widespread rain doesn't appear to be on the horizon just yet.
Labrador follows a similar trend. The weekend is generally quiet, although a few afternoon showers and thunderstorms may develop Sunday. Temperatures remain comfortable, with highs mostly in the teens and 20s—good news for firefighters as wildfire conditions remain far less aggressive than they were earlier this week.
So if you're making weekend plans, Saturday gets the edge. Sunday isn't a write-off, but you'll want a jacket if you're heading anywhere along the northeast coast.
