5 Things to Know About Week Ahead

NEW WIILDFIRE NEAR KINGSTON (CBN)

Another wildfire broke out in the CBN area last evening. This time, the fire is located near Kingston. As of last evening, the fire was said to be 25 hectares in size. Sunday evening (August 3, 2025), the fire was being actioned by two water bombers, a helicopter, and ground crews. Suppression efforts ended late in the evening and will continue this morning, according to Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture, Newfoundland and Labrador.

An evacuation alert was issued late last night for Kingstonston to Adam’s Cove, Small Point, Kingston, and Broad Cove. All residents are advised to make preparations for possible evacuation in case the fire spreads toward the town and evacuation on shore notice is required.

As more updates become available, I will post them for you here and over my social channels and in the app.

Good Monday Morning!

We are waking up to some showers over parts of western Newfoundland and coastal Labrador. The showers and even pockets of rain will continue in the areas above through the day. While central starts dry, we will see a few showers this afternoon. Across the rest of the Island and western Labrador, we should remain predominantly dry. Areas outside of the rain and showers will see a mix of sun and cloud. High temperatures today reach the teens to the lower 20s.

Here are 5 things to know about the week ahead:

#1 - Dry Weather Pattern

Other than a few showers overnight and Monday for parts of eastern Labrador and western and central Newfoundland, we are in for another very dry week across the province. An unusually strong ridge of high pressure is going to build over the region. Temperatures will remain near-normal through Wednesday before rising to well above average levels by late week and next weekend.

#2 - Fire Danger

Fire Danger Remains High— Due to the lack of rain in the forecast, and the lack of rain we’ve through June and July, the fire hazard index will remain high to extreme across much of the Province this week. Please exercise EXTREME caution when partaking in activities that could ignite new fires. A new fire was ignited today near Kingston (CBN), and luckily, the fire is being actioned and hopefully it will be stopped in its tracks overnight or tomorrow.

#3 - Late Week Heat

While the week will be dominated by high pressure, the ridge is expected to intensify late in the week and over the weekend. That is going to send another burst of unseasonably hot temperatures across much of the Province. In fact, by late in the week and the weekend, current forecasts indicate readings may be 8ºC to 10ºC above normal. That means for areas that typically see highs near 20º, maximums will be in the upper 20s to perhaps lower 30s. On top of that, the air over the region is going to be exceptionally dry. The silver lining may be that wind speeds do not look to be overly strong. If it were, the fire danger would probably be higher than extreme, if that exists. I cannot stress enough how important it is to be VERY CAREFUL with open flames over the next several days.

#4 - The Next Chance of Rain…

The next chance of widespread rain, after this morning’s showers, looks to be NEXT weekend. Not a great situation when water levels are low, temperatures are high, and the fire danger is extreme.

#5 - Watching the Tropics

There are a few tropical waves the NOAA National Hurricane Centre is keeping an eye on. At the moment, these do not seem to pose a threat to Newfoundland and Labrador. In fact, the atmosphere’s response to the tropical wave off the Carolinas will be increasingly strong high-pressure ridge over the region later this week.

Current areas of interest the NHC is monitoring right now

Please have a great Monday, and my next update will be posted this afternoon!
