Winter Storm Update: We’re Not Done Yet

What’s Happening Tonight

Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect through Thursday morning for:

  • Avalon Peninsula (including St. John’s Metro)

  • Bonavista Peninsula

  • Clarenville to Terra Nova

  • Gander and Bonavista North

Snowfall rates have ramped up again this evening, especially across the Avalon and northeast coast. The low pressure system is slowly pulling away, but a persistent feed of moisture continues to rotate into eastern Newfoundland.

The atmosphere is cooling a bit overnight, so the snow may become slightly less wet — but it will still accumulate efficiently.

Additional Snowfall Through Thursday Morning

Most of what’s left falls overnight into early Thursday.

St. John’s Metro & Northeast Avalon

(Paradise, Mount Pearl, CBS, Portugal Cove–St. Philip’s, Torbay, Flatrock, Pouch Cove, Petty Harbour, Bay Bulls)

➡️ Another 10–20 cm likely

Avalon North

(Brigus, Bay Roberts, Upper Island Cove, Carbonear, Victoria, Hearts Content area)

➡️ 5–15 cm, locally higher north of Bay Roberts

Bonavista Peninsula

➡️ 10–20 cm, especially northern sections

Clarenville to Gander & Northeast Coast

➡️ 5–15 cm, tapering off earlier than the Avalon

Burin Peninsula

➡️ Generally lighter, but still a few additional centimetres possible

Central Newfoundland (west of Lewisporte Junction)

➡️ Snow ends earlier, only minor additional accumulation

When Does It End?

Snow will begin to ease from west to east early Thursday morning. Central areas improve first, with the Avalon and Bonavista Peninsula likely holding onto lighter snow into late morning or even early afternoon.

Even after the steady snow ends, flurries may persist.

The Bottom Line

This has already been a major winter storm for eastern Newfoundland.

Another 10–20 cm in parts of the Avalon will push totals even higher before this finally winds down Thursday.

If you’ve already cleared the driveway… there’s a good chance you’ll be back at it in the morning.
