Thursday Morning Weather Briefing— February 19, 2026

Here are today’s weather highlights:
Snow has eased but continues over parts of eastern and northeast Newfoundland. The Highway Cameras show snow flying across much of the region.
Many schools, Gov NL buildings and businesses are closed, and Metrobus is suspended for the day. Metro St. John’s Schools are closed for the day.
Weather alerts for our winter storm have ended
Snowfall amounts thus far — since Tuesday night (more later today):
Paradise: 74 cm
St. John’s East: 50 cm (as of 10:30 last night)
St. John’s Int’l: 41 cm
Gander: 28 cm (as of 10:30 last night)
Light snow and flurries will continue today over parts the Avalon and Bonavista Peninsula and possibly along the northeast coast as our low is slow to pull away. The rates will be much lower than yesterday, but forecast guidance does indicate that amounts of 2 to 5 cm will be found through the day for the Avlaon North, St. John’s Metro and then farther northwest toward the bonavista Peninsual and the northeast corner of the Island.

Outside of those areas, the weather will be quiet today. Highs range from near 0 on the Island to a few degrees below in Labrador. The map below shows the expected highs and weather across the Province today. I’ll have more updates on our later this morning and this afternoon.
