Good Wednesday morning!
Here are today’s highlights:
Temps are in the single digits above freezing across Newfoundland this morning, while most of Labrador is near or below the goose egg.
Wabush airport is currently reporting light snow, and a few showers are on the go over the Northern Peninsula as of 5:30 NDT.
An area of low pressure will move into western Labrador today, pushing rain and snow across the Big Land.
That same low will push rain and showers onto the Island this afternoon, arriving on the southwest coast late this morning, the West Coast and GNP early this afternoon, followed by the rest of the Island during the afternoon and/or early evening.
The showers/rain end on the Island by Thursday morning.
Rain and snow will end in much of Labrador overnight. Areas of the coast, especially the North Coast, will see a late-season winter storm, and the snow will continue into Thursday.
Today’s Outlook for Newfoundland
A mix of sun and cloud across many areas this morning will give way to generally cloudy skies by late morning or early afternoon. Showers, followed by rain, will arrive on the Southwest coast later this morning, then on the West Coast and Northern Peninsula by early afternoon, then on the South Coast and Central/northeastern areas by mid to late afternoon, and finally on the rest of the Island by early evening.
Temperatures will peak between the upper single digits and the middle teens today, with the warmest readings in the central and western parts of the Island. Winds will be from the south or southeast, initially light this morning, then increase through the day to about 20 to 40 km/h from the south.

Today’s Outlook for Labrador
Labrador's forecast for today, May 20, 2026.
An area of low pressure will move through the Big Land today from west to east and intensify as it does so. This low will bring rain and snow to the region into tonight and Thursday. For most areas along and near the TLH and points south, most precipitation will be rain or a mix of rain and snow, with very little accumulation. That said, this afternoon and tonight, conditions between Churchill Falls, Labrador City and Wabush may become slick as a few hours of accumulating snow are expected. Highs will be in the single digits above freezing to near 10º for areas in the west and south, near freezing on the mid coast, and points north.
The animation above illustrates this well. It also shows an exception to the rain. The mid and north coasts will generally see snow from today through Thursday in a late-season winter storm. Amounts will be 15 to 25 cm, with the highest amounts just inland and over higher terrain. The most significant snowfall is expected in the Hopedale, Voisey’s Bay and Nain areas, and then into the Torngats. The snow will end in these areas by midday Thursday.
Expected snowfall between today and Thursday evening, May 20 and 21, 2026.
