Wednesday Evening’s Forecast | July 23, 2025

The weather will be a tad more active over the next few days across NL. That means more rain and shower chances across the board. There is even the chance of more significant rain over eastern Newfoundland Friday night into Saturday!

Wednesday Night

A few showers push across Labrador from west to east and may scrape the Northern Peninsula early Thursday morning. The rain in Labrador will be along and ahead of a warm front, so expect temperatures to hold in the middle teens overnight. Meanwhile, on the Island temperatures will fall into the low teens for many areas, with some parts of central and interior dropping into the single digits. I expect mostly clear skies over the Island, with perhaps a few showers late tonight or very early Thursday on the Northern Peninsula.

Thursday

Another quiet and breezy day (westerly winds) on the Island, under a mix of sun and cloud. Temperatures climb into the lower and middle 20s. Labrador will generally have cloudy skies. Additionally, showers will move from west to east throughout the day, gradually shifting offshore in the afternoon. Temperatures will be in the upper teens.

Thursday Night and Friday

Showers will develop over Labrador West once again Thursday evening as an area of low pressure develops over the area. The showers will turn into a steadier rain overnight. The area of rain will grow in size overnight, and at the same time, it will head east. The rain will end as showers or drizzle before sunrise in Labrador West, while Churchill Falls and the Happy Valley-Goose Bay area will see the rain start later, and end Thursday morning, or by lunchtime. The Goose Bay area may see a period of heavy rainfall overnight. The rain is expected to arrive on the coast Thursday morning and will move offshore during the second half of the day. Temperatures will reach the upper teens to near 20°, although cooler air will filter into the west late in the day.

On the Island, Thursday starts dry and sunny, but clouds will increase in the west through the morning with rain and/or showers arriving in the afternoon. The exception will be the GNP, where rain is expected to fall throughout most of the day. Areas farther east will be sunny and dry on Friday. Highs will be in the 20s, and a strong southwest breeze is expected. The southwesterly breeze could cause the Musgrave Harbour Fire to kick back up if it’s still going after Tuesday’s rainfall.

The Weekend

Saturday

Rain is likely (some heavy) for central and eastern Newfoundland, while showers will be found along the West Coast and GNP. There will also be scattered showers in Labrador. More rainfall is great news for the fires burning around Bonavista Bay! Highs in the middle to upper teens Province-wide.

Sunday

Mostly sunny skies are currently in the forecast on the Island with highs in the lower 20s. Labrador has a chance of rain, with highs in the upper teens in the west to lower teens on the coast.
