Tuesday Morning Weather Brief | Juy 22, 2025

GOOD MORNING!

Here are today’s weather headlines:

  • Area of low pressure keeps the rain going for much of eastern/central areas today before ending by evening

  • Rain ends on the West Coast later this morning

  • Wind speeds pick up for most later today behind the departing low (from the north/northwest)

  • Track the rain yourself using the (almost) LIVE radar in the Sheerr Weather app!

THIS MORNING / TODAY’S RAIN

We are seeing a fair bit of rain across much of the Island west of the eastern three Peninsulas this morning. The radar loop over the last 3 hours shows this very well. The brighter colours indicate heavier rainfall.

The area of low pressure driving today’s rainfall is going to slowly trudge its way over eastern Newfoundland between the Burin and Bonavista Peninsulas on its way out into the North Atlantic. Just west of the low’s track, there will be significant rainfall through the morning before it tapers off in the early afternoon.

Rainfall amounts today will be highest just west of the Avalon Peninsula, where more than 20mm is projected to fall by this evening. Locally higher amounts are possible for locations that experience heavy downpours. Both Chance and Musgrave Harbours will see significant rainfall today, which should be a great help in the firefight.

TODAY’S WIND

On the west, or back, side of the low there will be some fairly high wind speeds from the north or northwest. You’ll notice these once the low passes your location, especially if you’re on the eastern side of it. Most areas of the Island will see wind speeds of 30 to 50 km/h today, with higher gusts along coastal areas. Some gusts will be in excess of 65 to 70 km/h today. The wind speeds will drop down quickly this afternoon and evening, once the low passes.

TODAY’S TEMPERATURES

Generally, we are looking at highs in the teens to near 20 today. It will be coolest along/near north-facing shores and warmest in the southwest. To see the temperatures expected in your areas you can get the app, or visit the forecast pages which have the Province broken down by regions with expected highs today and the following 7 days.

LABRADOR TODAY

Breezy and cloudy, and drizzly along the coast today with high temperatures only reaching the lower teens. Inland and in the west expect more sun and cloud and highs in the middle teens to near 20º.

Have a great day and expect my full forecast later today!
