Tonight and Tomorrow

Newfoundland

Tonight: Skies become clear across the Island overnight, and the breezy conditions will get a little less… breezy. Low temperatures of 0° to 3°.

Tomorrow: Sunny skies across Newfoundland. There is the chance some low cloud returns to areas along the north-east coast, the Bonavista and Avalon Peninsulas in the afternoon as the wind is forecast to turn a bit more onshore (from the north). High temperatures near 10°.

Labrador

Tonight: Mostly clear initially, but clouds will increase from the north late in the overnight. Lows near 0° in the west to near 5° on the coast. It will be breezy on the coast, with nearly calm winds in the west.

Tomorrow: An area of high pressure will be the dominant weather feature, and the result will be sunny skies and highs of 10° to 12°. There will be some clouds in the west. I’m not sure if these will be low overcast-type clouds or more scattered in nature.

Thursday’s Forecast

Partly to mostly cloudy in Labrador, with highs ranging from 5° in the west to near 10° in the east. The Island will see another sunny day; however, there will be a chance of late-day showers along the southwest coast. Clouds may also begin to increase over many areas during the afternoon. The wind direction changes from north to south or southwest through the day. Highs of 8° to 12°.

Friday’s Forecast / Halloween / The Weekend

The day starts dry and decent, but it will not last. Wind speeds will pick up during the afternoon, especially in the Wreckhouse area, and clouds will be increasing. Rain will arrive in Labrador, along with southern and western Newfoundland, during the late afternoon. It looks like the rain in central and eastern areas will hold off until later in the evening… for the time being. Remember, the timing of these things can always change. Temperatures peak in the mid to upper single digits on the Island and lower single to mid single digits in Labrador.

There is also a chance that remnants of Hurricane Melissa will affect our weather between Friday night and Saturday. Most computer guidance keeps what is left of Melissa east of Newfoundland, but it looks like some moisture from the storm will be drawn into the region. This is welcome news, as any rain is good rain and heavy rain is very good rain!

Friday night looks to bring a round of significant rainfall to the Island as an area of low pressure moves into the region. The air looks cold enough on the north side of the system; much of Labrador may see the first significant snowfall of the season. This would start Friday night and linger into Saturday. Right now, it’s still too early to get into amounts. Temperatures will be near 0 for much of Labrador Saturday, while the Island will be in the lower teens.

The weather will improve across the board on Sunday. Highs will be in the 2° to 5° range on the Island and near freezing in Labrador. Expect partly to mostly sunny skies Province-wide.
