Good Thursday morning!
Here are today’s highlights:
The last of the showers is currently over the Avalon Peninsula and moving east (offshore).
Snow is showing up on the webcams in Churchill Falls and Ranger Lake this morning. I’ll be adding Ranger Lake to the camera page today!
The airports in Nain, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Churchill Falls and Wabush are all reporting light snow this morning.
The webcam at the airport in Natuashish appears to show a full-fledged winter storm in progress!
Weather improves across most of NL today; however, snow will linger on Labrador’s middle and north coast into this afternoon. Another round of rain and snow returns to the same areas tonight and will continue into Friday, although that should be more rain than snow.
Highs today reach the single digits on the Island and the teens in most of Labrador, with single digits above freezing in most of Labrador.
Wind speeds pick up this afternoon for much of NL as the low strengthens north of the Province.
The last of the showers is moving offshore of eastern Newfoundland as a low-pressure system tracks eastward over the Atlantic. The weather on the Island will improve in short order, however in Labrador the light snow is still flying over many areas, and it’s still quite heavy along parts of coast. Especially on the North Coast. The images below are webcams from Wabush, Churchill Falls and Natuashish. THey all show snow, but the heaviest is on the coast.
Weather conditions are expected to improve across most of Newfoundland and Labrador today as the current system moves offshore. However, snow will linger on Labrador's middle and north coast into this afternoon before finally tapering off. This break will be short-lived, as another round of rain and snow is set to return to the same areas tonight, continuing into Friday. This next system should bring more rain than snow to most locations as milder air works its way into the region. The animation below shows that well.
Temperature-wise, highs today will reach the single digits across the Island, while most of Labrador will see temperatures in the teens. Areas in Labrador should climb into the single digits above freezing, making for relatively mild conditions despite the snow that's falling this morning.
