The densest fog was once again over the eastern side of the Island. Visibility in town was around half a kilometre early this afternoon, with Gander sitting at just over a kilometre. Locally, it may have been less!
Further south and west, sunnier breaks were showing up — in fact, the Bay St. George area enjoyed a fair bit of sunshine today! Labrador, meanwhile, saw rain spreading from the southeast toward the west through the evening.
Weekend Forecast
A large offshore low and a blocking high over Europe are keeping the weather pattern slow-moving and damp.
Saturday: Fog and low cloud persist, especially near east and northeast shorelines, with highs of 9–13 °C for most of Newfoundland and around 6–7 °C in Labrador. Expect more sunny breaks inlanad and south.
Sunday: Conditions gradually improve, especially inland and toward the west. Fog returns Saturday night but should lift through Sunday afternoon, leading to a brighter second half of the weekend.
Looking Ahead
By Monday, high pressure builds in, finally drying things out and bringing a more decent pattern to start next week. Eastern and northeastern Newfoundland might hold onto some lingering fog or drizzle, but much of Labrador will warm up substantially.
Rainfall totals through the weekend remain minimal — just a few millimetres here and there — far less than what’s needed to ease the ongoing drought across the island.
