🔥 Muggy Afternoon & Soaking Rain in Labrador

It’s a soupy one across much of the Island this afternoon, with high humidity, a breeze in spots, and that classic “you can wear the air” kind of feel. I believe the Newfoundland term is “close". The air was exceptionally humid over eastern areas today, when St. John’s had a dew point of nearly 22º and a humidex of 34. That is the highest dew point I can recall seeing!

Meanwhile, in Labrador, it’s a full-on soaking. Heavy rain is still coming down across central and eastern sections, especially around Happy Valley-Goose Bay, where 50 to 70 mm of rain is expected in total. It’s been a slow, steady drench, and roads and low-lying areas are definitely dealing with ponding and likely some minor flooding concerns. Winds are gusty too, especially in exposed areas along the coast. The rain will shift out of Goose Bay and more toward the North and Mid-Coast overnight before ending early Saturday.

🌧 Labrador Rain Moves Out Tonight – Showers over the weekend

The worst of today’s rain will gradually ease from west to east overnight, with clearing skies moving into western and eventually central Labrador. But eastern areas will hang onto the wet weather a bit longer — possibly until just before dawn.

Tomorrow (Saturday) brings cooler, drier air sneaking into the west, although it may remain cloudy. Eastern Labrador may still see some leftover drizzle or showers in the morning.

Looking ahead to Sunday, the weather looks decent overall. However, another round of showers is expected to arrive on Sunday.

🌫 Fog, Storm Chances & Rain Risk Next Week on the Island

On the Island, it stays muggy and foggy into the evening, with south-facing shorelines locked in under thick fog that may not lift much at all. Inland areas will see showers and/or thunderstorms this evening, especially through central and western Newfoundland, but coverage will be pretty scattered. The line may taper off as it nears the East Coast.

Tonight, the showers will end from west to east, and much drier air will move in. This will set the stage for a comfortable start to Saturday and a great weekend!

The weekend is trending warm (again) but less humid. Saturday may be nearly cloudless over the Island as a matter of fact. Sunday will see the pattern change again and the humidity stgarts to creep back in. All that being said, models are now hinting at a larger rainmaker early next week, especially Monday into Tuesday, with the potential for more widespread rain across the Island. That’s still a few days out, but it’s one to watch if you have outdoor plans.
