The Rain Ends Overnight, Giving Way To A Very Nice Weekend!

Friday’s weather-maker will depart overnight, and in its wake, we will be greeted by a lovely Saturday across the Province. Temperatures will be comfortable and skies blue. Sunday will be very similar, clouds and showers will return to Labrador West in the afternoon or evening.

Tonight

Rain will end across Newfoundland from southwest to northeast as our weather-maker departs the region. Parts of southeast Labrador will see rain redevelop this evening before ending Saturday morning. Inland areas will see rain change to wet snow before ending, with up to 5 cm falling.

Temperatures will turn cooler overnight as a cold front moves east of the region. On the Island, we will dip into the mid single digits in the east, to near 0ºC in the west and north. Meanwhile, in Labrador, lows will be near 2º on the coast to -6º in the west.

Saturday

Sunny skies will cover most of the Province, with light winds. It will be an excellent day for iceberg hunting! Highs will be near the upper single digits to the lower teens on the Island and about 6º to 10º in the Big Land. The warmest readings will be in the Happy Valley-Goose Bay area.

Sunday (Mother’s Day!)

Expect a few more clouds on the Island, but overall I expect a fair bit of sunshine. Temperatures will reach the middle to upper teens for highs across central and western Newfoundland. Eastern and southern areas will be a little cooler due to onshore winds. However, Sunday looks to be a day when we could see a big temperature difference on the Avalon. Right along the East Coast and Southern Shore, it will be cooler, in the mid single digits, while areas inland and along Conception Bay will be in the mid-teens. Labrador will be similar, with less onshore flow on the coast. Highs will reach the teens under mostly sunny skies. Clouds will increase in the west, and showers will move in late in the day.

Next Week

The weather next week will be fairly quiet on Monday and Tuesday. At this time, it does appear that a strong low will move through the Province around mid-week. This will likely bring another round of rain and wind for the Island, and rain, snow and wind for Labrador. While it is too early to get into the details, there is the potential of this bringing significant late-season snow to a large part of Labrador,

Stay tuned for updates!
