Sunshine returns Thursday for the Island, while showers arrive in coastal Labrador
Sunshine returns Thursday across Newfoundland with highs in the upper teens and low 20s. Labrador sees a mix of sun, cloud, and a few showers. Hurricane Erin stays well offshore this weekend, but large waves could reach 2–4 meters along southern Newfoundland and other areas of Atlantic Canada.
It’s been a very wet 48 hours across parts of Newfoundland and Labrador, though not everyone shared in the rain. Point Leamington picked up nearly 110 mm, while areas like Bay Roberts missed out. Clouds are still hanging on across much of the northeast coast and Avalon, but sunnier breaks developed southwest of there this afternoon.
In Labrador, the day started clear before clouds moved in from both east and west. Temperatures stayed cool along the coast, with milder readings in the teens and even near 20 in sheltered inland areas.
Looking ahead:
Tonight: Clouds gradually decrease across Newfoundland, with lows of 5–10°C. Labrador holds onto more cloud, especially along the coast.
Thursday: A beautiful day shaping up for most of Newfoundland—sunny, with highs in the mid-to-upper teens and even low 20s in spots. Labrador will see a mix of sun and cloud, with showers possible around Cartwright and Makkovik.
Friday: Generally pleasant, though a bit cloudier for parts of the Avalon.
Saturday: Eastern Newfoundland may see drizzle and showers as Hurricane Erin passes well southeast of the province. Labrador stays mostly fair.
Hurricane Erin: Currently a Category 2 storm off the U.S. east coast, Erin is tracking northeast and will stay far offshore. Direct impacts are expected to be minimal, but large waves—2 to 4 meters near southern Newfoundland—are possible late Friday through Sunday. Marine forecasts will be key for anyone planning to be on the water this weekend.
By Sunday, conditions improve with sunshine returning and temperatures climbing back into the 20s by Monday.
