If you've stepped outside in eastern Newfoundland today, you probably noticed something that has been in short supply lately: sunshine.
After several days of rain, wind, and even some snow in parts of the province, the weather has turned around in a big way. Blue skies and sunshine made a welcome return across much of eastern and northeastern Newfoundland on Tuesday, and the good news is that the pleasant weather isn't going anywhere just yet.
Tonight will be relatively quiet across Newfoundland and Labrador, with temperatures dipping back into the single digits on the Island and remaining a little milder across much of Labrador. Aside from a few isolated showers, conditions will be fairly uneventful.
Wednesday is shaping up to be another excellent day. Much of Newfoundland can expect plenty of sunshine and temperatures climbing into the middle teens. In Labrador, many communities along and south of the Trans-Labrador Highway will push into the upper teens and low twenties, making it one of the warmest days the region has seen in quite some time.
However, changes are already taking shape to the north.
A cold front will begin moving through Labrador on Wednesday before working its way southward later in the week. By Thursday, much of Labrador will notice a significant drop in temperatures along with periods of rain. In some areas, particularly along the coast, rain may even mix with wet snow Thursday night into Friday.
That same colder air will eventually spread into Newfoundland. The Northern Peninsula will be first to feel the change on Thursday, with the rest of the Island seeing the cooler air arrive Friday. Temperatures that have been feeling fairly spring-like will take a noticeable step backward, accompanied by some wind and areas of rain.
There is even the possibility of some wet snow across parts of the Northern Peninsula on Friday. While we're now into meteorological summer, Mother Nature clearly didn't get the memo.
The weekend currently looks cooler than the middle of the week, but it also appears generally dry for most areas. While temperatures won't be overly impressive, many communities should still see decent weather for outdoor plans.
Looking beyond the weekend, Labrador appears poised for a quick rebound. By early next week, temperatures in the Goose Bay area could climb back into the mid-20s, offering a much more summer-like feel and a reminder that warmer days are still ahead.
