Tonight

Across Newfoundland and Labrador, most areas will stay dry overnight with temperatures dipping into the single digits and teens. Any rain for the Island will hold off until the pre-dawn or very early morning hours.

Saturday: A Soggy Start for Many

Labrador will enjoy a sunny, comfortable day on Saturday.
For Newfoundland, however, it’s a different story.

  • Rain: Heavy rain will spread across the south, central, and eastern parts of the Island.

  • Alerts: Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for the Avalon Peninsula, Burin Peninsula, Clarenville, Terra Nova, and Bonavista Peninsula.

  • Amounts: Up to 40 mm of rain is expected in these areas, with some spots possibly seeing 50 mm or more. A widespread 20–40 mm is a solid bet.

  • Timing: The heaviest rain will fall from the morning through early to mid-afternoon, tapering off from south to north as the system pulls away. Some areas may even see sun by evening.

  • Winds: Gusts could reach 60+ km/h along southern and eastern Newfoundland, with widespread gusts over 40 km/h during the day.

Sunday & Labour Day Monday

The second half of the long weekend looks much better:

  • Sunday: Sunshine and comfortable highs in the teens and 20s for much of NL and Labrador.

  • Labour Day Monday: Nearly a carbon copy of Sunday, with pleasant conditions province-wide.
