A quieter stretch of weather is finally on the way for Newfoundland and Labrador, after a couple of messy days across the province. Low pressure is pulling away into Quebec and Labrador, leaving behind onshore flurries, showers, and gusty winds — but the overall trend through the end of the work week is improvement.

Labrador: Snow → Rain → Flurries

Goose Bay picked up about 6 cm of snow yesterday before temperatures rose above freezing and changed things over to rain.
Farther west — Lab West and along the Trans-Labrador Highway — conditions were much wintrier today with blowing and drifting snow and reduced visibility.

Flurries continue tonight and into Wednesday for many areas, especially western Labrador, before gradually tapering later in the day.

Newfoundland: Mixed Bag, But Trending Better

Onshore showers and flurries have been streaming in from the southwest through the afternoon, affecting the southwest coast to Green Bay–White Bay and northern Peninsula. Lower elevations are mainly seeing rain, while higher terrain — including places like Marble Mountain — will likely see a bit of snow by Wednesday morning, mainly on the hilltops.

Winds have also been strong at times, with gusts 60–70 km/h along parts of the west coast and Gulf. These gradually ease through tomorrow night and especially into Thursday and Friday.

Wednesday: Brightest on the Avalon

Central and eastern Newfoundland wake up to some sunshine on Wednesday, with the Avalon likely seeing the sunniest conditions of the island.
Western areas continue to see scattered showers and flurries.

Temperatures:

  • Island: Highs of 3–7°C, warmest on the Avalon

  • Labrador: Highs from –3°C to +2°C, mildest along the coast

7-Day Overview: Quiet, Cool, and Mostly Uneventful

Across Newfoundland and Labrador, temperatures stay fairly steady with no major systems expected for several days.
A weak system brings a chance of showers Saturday for Newfoundland and some snow near Goose Bay.

Late-Month Pattern Shift: Better Snow Chances

Over the past couple of weeks, storm tracks have been running from the northeastern U.S. → Quebec → Labrador. That keeps most of Newfoundland on the warm side of systems, with more rain or snow-to-rain events.

Later this month, computer guidance suggests the storm track may sag farther south, which could:

  • Allow colder air to push in

  • Increase the chances of snow events

  • Bring a more wintry pattern overall

Not guaranteed — but the potential is clearly rising as we head into the latter part of November.
