Good Monday Morning! Here are today’s highlights
Temperatures are not as cool to begin the day as they were yesterday.
Showers and areas of rain will be found over western and eastern Newfoundland today as low-pressure systems move to our south.
Scattered showers will be found throughout the Big Land.
High temperatures reach the upper single digits to mid-teens today across NL.
High pressure builds in after today, setting the stage for a quiet period across the region.

Newfoundland & Labrador Today
Temperatures across the province this morning are generally in the single digits above the freezing mark, which means it’s not as cold as yesterday morning. A large part of that is due to more cloud cover over the region ahead of an approaching disturbance (for lack of a better word).
An area of low pressure will pass well south of Newfoundland today; however, a piece of energy in the mid-levels of the atmosphere will cause that low to intensify as it does so. That will lead to a large amount of lift over the Island and southern Labrador, which in turn will drive areas of rain and showers today. The precipitation will be most widespread this afternoon over the West Coast and East Coast, with the middle of Newfoundland seeing less activity. There will also be scattered showers in the Big Land today. The animation below (Futurecast) shows how the radar and satellite will evolve through the day.
High temperatures will peak in the single digits to mid-teens across the province today, with the coolest readings in Labrador and the warmest in southern and southeastern Newfoundland. Wind speeds will not be a factor today (thank goodness).

After this system departs, a large ridge of high pressure will settle over the region, leading to several days of calm, quiet, and comfortable weather across the province. Temperatures this week will be near to above normal in Labrador and near to slightly below normal across Newfoundland.
This week’s temperature anomalies show how temperatures compare with the average. Blue is colder than normal, and red is warmer than normal.
South of that high, a Nor’easter will take shape and looks like it will batter parts of the Northeastern United States and Maritime Provinces with rain, wind, and possible storm surge later this week.
