Monday Morning’s Weather Briefing — June 22, 2026
Good Monday morning! Here are today’s highlights:
It will be a cool day over most of the Island and coastal Labrador, with highs in the single digits and teens.
Lab. West, Churchill Falls and the Happy Valley-Goose Bay area peak in the lower to middle 20s today!
Skies turn sunny from west to east between this morning and early afternoon.
Frost is possible over parts of the Island tonight, and a Frost Advisory is in effect for early Tuesday morning, thanks to clear skies and light winds.
Tuesday will be warmer overall, but a potent system lurks for Wednesday.
This morning’s update is sponsored by Roebothan, McKay, Marshall.

The Island is waking up to a cool grey Monday as the weekend system pulls away. The pattern is improving — most of the province will see sun this afternoon — but there's a catch: the air that replaced the departing storm is cool for late June, and tonight, with clear skies and light winds setting in, valleys and low-lying spots across the interior parts of the Island may see patchy frost. Environment Canada has issued a Frost Advisory for a large part of the Island. If you've got anything frost-sensitive in the ground or on the porch, tonight is the night to bring it in.
TODAY’S FORECAST / OUTLOOK
Eastern Newfoundland and the Avalon:
Mostly cloudy today with a slight chance of lingering morning showers, then hanging on to cloud through the early afternoon. Skies will turn sunny for the second half of the day. Highs 9 to 13°C — right on the coast, around 9 or 10°C, a few degrees warmer heading inland. North winds at 15 to 20 km/h. Cool for the second half of June, no question about it.
Tonight, inland areas could see temperatures drop to the lower single digits, and even though there is no alert, frost is possible in low-lying areas. Again.
Tuesday is nicer! Highs of 18 to 20°C, mostly sunny, the nicest day of the week by some margin. Wednesday, rain arrives with southeast winds building and 20 mm or more possible. That's the storm.
Central/Northeast Newfoundland:
Gander is currently fogged in — near-zero visibility — but that fog burns off through the late morning as north winds strengthen. The afternoon should turn out decent once it clears, with highs around 15 to 17°C across much of central/northeastern Newfoundland. It’ll be cooler along the coast.
Much like eastern areas, clear skies and light winds will set the stage for a cool night with the potential of patchy fog in low-lying areas.
Tuesday is a standout: 21 to 23°C with mostly sunny skies. Wednesday brings rain and southeast winds, with 20 to 25 mm on the table — among the heavier totals on the Island.
The West Coast/Bay St. George:
Much of the West Coast is clearing this morning and today will be partly to mostly sunny with highs 15 to 17°C inland, while coastal locations will be a few degrees cooler at 13 to 15°C. The frost risk tonight is real in the Humber Valley and Gros Morne, where temperatures on the valley floors could touch +1°C.
Tuesday is beautiful — 21 to 23°C in Corner Brook, 17 to 19°C in Stephenville.
Wednesday: rain and east winds at 15 to 30 km/h, 15 to 20 mm.
The South Coast:
Morning clouds give way to the sun throughout the day. Highs 11 to 13°C today, with a southwest breeze at Burgeo. Overnight frost risk is real in low-lying areas — lows near +3°C. Tuesday is similar, 11 to 13°C. Wednesday is the day to watch: east winds climbing past 35+ km/h, periods of rain— up to 30 mm possible along the Burgeo and Ramea area. Locally higher rainfall and winds are possible on Wednesday.
Southwest Coast:
Port aux Basques finishes clearing by midday with WNW winds and a high around 15 to 17°C — the best of the day. Tuesday turns cloudy with southeast winds building ahead of the system, and the Wednesday storm hits hard here: east winds 40 to 50 km/h and 15 mm of rain. Port aux Basques is one of those spots where the actual winds often exceed the forecast if a storm tracks a bit south of the expected path, so keep a close eye on Tuesday evening's updates if you're working the water or planning travel through the area. Wreckhouse Wind will be an issue Tusesday night into Wednesday as well.
GNP and the Straits:
Partly cloudy and 14 to 16°C today, but southwest winds build through the afternoon and can gust to 50 km/h around the Straits. Tuesday is pleasant, 16 to 18°C. Wednesday sees cooler air, showers, and northeast winds with 5 to 10 mm of rain.
Labrador:
The Big Land: The contrast today is striking. Goose Bay and Lab West are in for a near-summer day — 24 to 26°C with plenty of sun. That's well above what the Island is getting, and a genuinely warm day by any measure.
The North Coast at Nain tells a completely different story: 7 to 9°C with a northeast breeze off the Labrador Sea, where sea ice is still exerting its influence on temperatures. The spread across Labrador today is close to 17°C — from one end of the region to the other.
Tuesday, Lab West and Goose Bay see rain arrive from a precursor disturbance — Lab City with a good chance of showers and highs around 19 to 21°C, Goose Bay cooler still with an afternoon shower chance. Nain, meanwhile, turns mild: 9 to 11°C and clearing.
By Wednesday, Nain is actually the warmest and driest spot in the province with highs of 16ºC to 18ºC.
