Speaking of fall, the season officially kicks off today at 3:49 PM NDT with the autumnal equinox. The autumnal equinox marks the official start of fall in the Northern Hemisphere, usually around September 22–23. On this day, the tilt of Earth’s axis positions the Sun directly above the equator, so day and night are nearly equal in length. After the equinox, daylight hours gradually get shorter as we move toward winter.

Even though the new season does start today, for many areas of the Province it will not exactly feel as crisp as it did over the weekend. Temperatures on the Island return to the upper teens and even low 20s today. Labraor will see highs in the upper single digits to teens. Sunshine will dominate the weather over much of NL, except in Labrador West, where showers will be on the go through much of the day.

Hurricane Gabrielle continues to churn in the Atlantic and will not directly impact the weather in the region; however, large swells from the storm will start to become more noticeable for some eastern and southern shorelines of the Island within the next day or less.

Have a great Monday and I’ll have my next update posted this afternoon!
